The transformational $3.026 billion project, which is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland
governments, will ease congestion and provide an alternative route for the growing communities
and commercial hubs of Helensvale and Coomera.
Coomera Connector Stage 1 South early works contract awarded
Stage 1 of the project stretches 16 kilometres between Coomera and Nerang and is being built
across three separate packages – North, Central and South. The Stage 1 North package, which
runs from Shipper Drive, Coomera to Helensvale Road, Helensvale, is nearing completion and
expected to open to traffic progressively later this year.
The Stage 1 Central package (Helensvale Road, Helensvale to Smith Street Motorway, Molendinar)
has substantial works underway in the Parkwood area. To accommodate the new motorway in this
area the following works are occurring:
- the Parkwood park ‘n’ ride is being reconfigured, with a new access point from Smith Street
and replacement car park - a new bridge is being built over Smith Street, adjacent to Napper Road
- seven new bridge structures are to be constructed, for on- and off-ramps for the Coomera
Connector and M1 at Smith Street Motorway.
Main construction is also now underway for the Stage 1 South package, which runs from Smith
Street Motorway, Molendinar to Nerang-Broadbeach Road, Nerang. The major construction contract
was awarded to Seymour White Construction in March this year.
While these works mark a significant step forward, there will be temporary impacts to residents,
motorists and commuters, particularly in the Parkwood area, as well as extensive traffic changes
expected along Smith Street, Napper Road, and the Smith Street Motorway. Additionally, ongoing
changes to the Parkwood park ‘n’ ride car park can be expected until the end of 2025.
While works are underway, motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, stay informed and allow for
extra travel time.
Coomera Connector Stage 1 is estimated to support an average of 1,000 direct jobs over the life of
the project and is planned to open progressively to traffic from late 2025.
