Laing O’Rourke is the only tier-one constructor to make the Financial Review BOSS Most Innovative Companies List, placing seventh amongst peers in property, construction and transport.

The accolade included recognition for delivering BuiltView, a timesaving, dedicated camera app and workflow platform for construction teams.

Developed by Laing O’Rourke’s Technology and Innovation Group, BuiltView allows construction site workers to easily capture, store, share and contextually engage with on-site photos. Photos provide critical input to track and document progress, identify quality issues, capture safety hazards, settle legal disputes, and communicate with clients and the community.

Before using BuiltView, the team found that only about 10 per cent of the photos taken on projects were helpful due to the lack of adequate storage and management.

Launched in August 2021, BuiltView has today approximately 1,300 users across several construction sites of Laing O’Rourke and industry peers. The app has saved an average of five hours per month for site workers in charge of taking pictures for various uses.

“We’re delighted to be recognised as an innovation leader in the construction sector. We are committed to delivering real value to the industry through new workflow products and tech-focused working methods. We are delighted to see our BuiltView platform being adopted by so many site workers during its first year, and we look forward to seeing it grow further,”  says the Head of Technology and Innovation at Laing O’Rourke Georgina North.

“We wholeheartedly welcome this recognition, as it reaffirms our leadership position in innovation and excellence. It motivates us to continue to deliver further innovations at Laing O’Rourke that make construction a safer, more sustainable, more efficient, and productive industry,”  says Laing O’Rourke Australia Managing Director Rebecca Hanley.
