CIMIC Group’s UGL has been selected to install a 35-megawatt one-hour battery energy storage system (BESS) facility in Port Hedland, Western Australia for Alinta Energy.
UGL will be responsible for the design, testing and commissioning of the BESS, which consists of a battery storage and power conditioning system at the Port Hedland Power Station. UGL will also be responsible for an extension to the existing high voltage infrastructure for connection of the BESS.
“We are pleased to deliver our experience to this growth project – a major energy storage project in Port Hedland – for our client Alinta Energy. Projects in high-tech, energy transition and sustainable infrastructure are a key focus for our Group,” says CIMIC Executive Chairman Juan Santamaria.
“UGL is a market leader in the design, construction and operation of energy assets across Australia. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Alinta Energy to provide a safe and effective outcome for their Port Hedland project,” says UGL Managing Director Doug Moss.
UGL has commenced work on the project, which is expected to be completed in late 2024.
