Foreman Job Description

A foreman is a supervisor responsible for overseeing and coordinating the work of a group of workers at a construction site. They ensure that tasks are completed efficiently, safely, and according to established plans and deadlines. Additionally, foremen provide guidance, resolve conflicts, and maintain communication between the workers and higher-level management.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct a team of workers, assigning tasks, and ensuring work is carried out effectively and in accordance with project plans and specifications.
  • Provide adequate resources and staffing to meet project schedules, laws, regulations and safety needs
  • Collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders with updates and addressing project requirements
  • Train and mentor new workers and provide guidance and support
  • Enforce safety protocols by conducting regular inspections and implementing corrective measures to mitigate risks
  • Conduct quality control inspections to ensure work meets established specifications
  • Generate accurate and timely reports on work progress, incidents, productivity, and other relevant information

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills and strong attention to detail
  • Strong knowledge of industry-specific safety protocols, regulations, and quality standards
  • Resolve conflicts and miscommunications quickly and amicably
  • Experience across civil works including structural concrete works, such as bridges, underpasses & retaining walls, as well as roading/pavements/asphalt
  • Coordinate daily tasks according to priorities and plans
  • Ability to read and interpret project plans, specifications, and technical drawings

Working Conditions

  • Work on construction sites often, such as manufacturing plants, maintenance facilities, and other industrial settings
  • May need to work in varying weather conditions
  • Shifts vary depending on the project requirements or when nearing a project
  • Occasional travel between sites

Average Salary

  • $100k – $150k per year in Australia
