Area Manager Job Description

An Area Manager is responsible for coordinating the operations of multiple locations within a specific geographic area. They ensure that each site achieves its objectives, manages resources, implements strategies, and fosters effective communication to optimise overall performance and efficiency.


  • Oversee operations and projects in a designated geographic area
  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards, regulations, and safety protocols
  • Manage and allocate resources efficiently for optimal project execution
  • Develop and implement strategies to meet engineering goals and objectives
  • Foster collaboration and effective communication among engineering teams
  • Evaluate and enhance the performance of engineering projects within the area
  • Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress and address issues
  • Coordinate with clients, stakeholders, and external partners
  • Provide leadership and guidance to engineering teams under supervision
  • Analyse data and reports to make informed decisions for continuous improvement


  • 5+ years of experience in civil construction and project management
  • Demonstrated experience in managing large-scale projects
  • Leadership qualities to motivate and guide engineering teams
  • Ability to conduct thorough site inspections and evaluations
  • Proficient in data analysis and reporting for performance assessment
  • Familiarity with client and stakeholder coordination in an engineering context
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and ability to form strong relationships with a variety of people
  • Problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Working Conditions

  • Adherence to safety regulations in hazardous environments
  • Collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders
  • Frequent travel within assigned geographic areas
  • Extra hours may be required when nearing the completion of a project

Average Salary

  • $90k – $110k per year in Australia
  • $95k – $115k per year in New Zealand
