Environmental Specialist Job Description
An Environmental Specialist assesses and mitigates the potential environmental impacts of construction and development activities for a project. They ensure that projects comply with environmental regulations and sustainability standards to minimise harm to ecosystems and natural resources.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough assessments of surrounding areas to identify potential environmental impacts and risks
- Manage and implement measures to control project site noise, dust, and silt, ensuring minimal environmental impact
- Implement risk management measures to prevent environmental incidents and ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations
- Perform environmental audits to assess and maintain compliance with applicable environmental legislation
- Develop and execute environmental sustainability strategies and action plans
- Utilise data and analytics to monitor and report progress towards environmental goals and targets
- Supervise and provide leadership to a team of Environmental Officers
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related field
- Have proven experience in environmental management
- Strong understanding of environmental laws and regulations
- Excellent communication and strong problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in environmental management software and data analysis tools
- Leadership skills to effectively manage and motivate a team
Working Conditions
- Work schedules depend on project objectives
- Work in both an indoor and outdoor environment
- Travel may be occasional depending on the project location
- May often work irregular hours, especially when dealing with emergency situations
Average Salary
- $125k – $145k per year in Australia
- $93k – $152k per year in New Zealand
